EMILY IN BOSTON

Food crawl FOMO

Video/GIF: Emily Schario

Welcome to Emily in Boston, where B-Side’s head of content, Emily Schario, shares her favorite hot takes and hot finds around Boston (and beyond!).

Not to give you FOMO, but … we’re gonna give you FOMO. Last weekend was B-Side’s first-ever North End food crawl and it was a smashing success.

Here’s everything we ate for just $25:

πŸ¦ͺ Stop 1: Clams casino at The Daily Catch. Crispy. Buttery. Herby. I often dismissed this dish as a septuagenarian’s special, but gladly stand corrected after trying The Daily Catch’s version.Β

πŸ₯ͺ Stop 2: Italian sub at Monica’s. Their owner may like to cosplay as an Italian gangster, but boy, do they make a good sub. The delicate, fatty ribbons of prosciutto are rounded out from the zing of the hot peppers and pickles. Chef’s kiss.Β

🀌 Stop 3: Florentine cannoli at Bova’s. If you’re still hung up on the Mike’s-Modern debate, you clearly haven’t tried Bova’s Florentine cannoli. The almond-based shell is thinner and crispier than average cannoli, creating a nutty, caramel-y, almost brown-butter flavor profile.

🍝 Stop 4: Bolognese pasta at TABLE Mercato. Their take on the classic dish is made with short rib, seriously elevating one of Italy’s greatest comfort foods. Pro-tip: You can buy a pint in store and re-heat at home if you can’t snag a table.

🍰 Stop 5: Tiramisu at CaffΓ© Vittoria. Considered the first cafe in the North End, this spot has been kickin’ since 1929. Their tiramisu is as classic as it comes: A punch from the espresso, followed by a soft and sweet mascarpone finish.
