BOSTON MARATHON
MarMon’s greatest hits

Another year, another Marathon Monday in the books. It was a picture-perfect day: Sunny skies. Highs in the 40s. And a broken course record to boot!
Here were some of the greatest hits from the greatest day of the year:
Note: All finish times mentioned are unofficial.
THE WINNERS
🏆 John Korir BROKE THE MEN’S COURSE RECORD!!! Sorry, we mean *shattered* the men’s course record with a blazing time of 02:01:52. Now that’s how you defend your title.
🏆 Sharon Lokedi (literally) ran back her title in the women’s race. With no other runners in sight, she sailed across the finish with a time of 02:18:51.
🏆 Marcel Hug won his fourth straight men’s wheelchair title. And his ninth in 11 years! He clocked a time of 1:16:06. Ka-chow!
🏆 Eden Rainbow-Cooper took home the women's wheelchair W. It was her second victory in Boston with a time of 1:30:51. Slay.
THE WINNERS … IN OUR HEARTS <3
😤 Our hometown heroes weren’t messing around. Bruins icon Zdeno Chara finished with a personal-best time of 3:18; recently retired NASA astronaut and Needham native Suni Williams clocked a time of 5:52:49; THE Des Linden who swam (and won) the 2018 Boston Marathon crossed in 2:35:49; and Boston native and “Love Island USA” Season 7 winner Bryan Arenales finished in 4:06:49.
💜 Our sweet sweet Gia finished her first Boston ever! She can now brag about this moment for the rest of her life. Everyone say, “YAY, GIA!”
🏃 From Chelsea Clinton to Laura Green … You can check out all the celebs and their unofficial finish times here.
MARMON GIGGLES AND GOOD EGGS
🪧 Boston’s sign game was STRONG. “Belichick would’ve stopped at 25.” “No one likes a fast finisher anyway.” “Fart here for a power boost.” You people had us CACKLING in the crowds. These were some of our favorite signs from the day.
🫶 And we were reminded why this day is so special. From runners carrying strangers across the finish line to mile 25 hugs from friends and family, we may have shed a few tears (specifically at this video).
😎 Remember: Boston is the best version of itself on Marathon Monday. Let’s keep these vibes rolling through the week, please. <3

CITY
Quick & dirty headlines

😎 Patio season came early this year. Boston's outdoor dining season might officially run from May 1 to Oct. 31, but several rooftops and patios on private property are already opening for business. Bubble Bath’s seasonal patio is open seven days a week; The Bowery Bar's massive back patio in Dorchester reopened in early April; and you can enjoy a nice breeze at date-night hits like Bar Mezzana, SRV, Baleia, and Gufo. Check out the full list of what’s open here.
😬 Faneuil Hall “needs a shot of adrenaline.” At least that’s what one of the hall’s small business owners thinks. ICYMI: Mayor Michelle Wu convened a workshop in March with city officials, experts, and Harvard professors to reimagine what Faneuil Hall could be. But the very small businesses that make up the marketplace felt very left out of the conversation. One said that it feels like the city is pushing them out, even though they struggled through the ebbs and flows to keep the place alive.
✈️ ¡Vamos a Barcelona en JetBlue! That’s right, Boston’s hometown airline is officially shipping passengers off to Barcelona, Spain on daily nonstop flights now through October (it’s seasonal service). Barcelona is JetBlue’s second destination in Spain (they also fly to Madrid), marking the airline’s seventh European city. JetBlue is celebrating the new route with limited one-way introductory fares starting ~$374. Take it from us: Emily flew to London on JetBlue, and it was one of the best international economy flights EVER.
🥐 This is where Michelin-approved chefs like to eat. Boston.com chatted with Bar Volpe’s chef de cuisine Molly Dwyer to ask where she eats when she’s off the clock (fun fact: she also ran the marathon!). And her picks are FIRE: Michette in Somerville for croissants, Vinal Bakery for English muffins, Rondo’s Sub Shop for a chicken cutlet sub, Mahaniyom for Panang curry with beef (and a side of roti), and the Stockyard in Brighton for a fat ribeye, to name a few. You can read all her picks here.

ONE LAST THING
Churn and burn!

Video and GIF: Emily Schario.
We kept seeing TikTokers churn butter on runs (exhibits A, B, and C) … and honestly? We felt a little left out …
So Emily put a bunch of heavy cream in her backpack and took it to the hardest part of the Boston Marathon course: The Newton Hills. Unsurprisingly, she filmed the whole thing.
These four hills are absolutely BRUTAL. For one, your legs are shot after running a net downhill for ~16 miles (generally where the dreaded wall starts to hit). And the last, most infamous hill — Heartbreak Hill — comes just after mile 20, followed by a diabolical downhill. Bad for your legs. GREAT for churning butter.
Emily did a butter check three miles in — things were firming up! So she kept running …
7.5 miles later … She made REAL butter, people! (On the side of the road, no less.)
You can watch the full (very weird) video here.

🧈 Thanks for reading! All we’re gonna say is … Kerrygold liked our video. IYKYK.
🏃 The results are in: Looks like B-Siders should try sportsbetting, because over 70% of y’all thought someone would break a marathon course record. “Cool weather, no rain, and a wind at their backs? The conditions are just too good this year!” said one reader. Can you pick our Powerball numbers, too?
