šŸ•šŸ¦Our fave sweet & salty spots in Boston

A special guide to eating pizza and ice cream in the city this summer

Happy June, Boston!

šŸŒ… Welcome to our second summer savings guide. Think sprinkles, brain freezes, sauce, and cheese. That’s right, we’re talking ice cream and pizza, people. It tastes better when the sun’s out, after all.

🤤 We chose a couple of our sweetest and saltiest favs. We curated this list of local spots especially for you, and EVERY place on the list is offering a discount for B-Side Members.

šŸ”‘ The best part about this guide? We’re making it more affordable to become a B-Side member, launching an offer for daily readers at just $50 a year! Or, if you’d rather, start a 14-day free trial.

šŸ‘€ What’s on tap this evening:

  • A slice that’ll transport you to New Haven

  • A scoop that’ll transport you to New Zealand

  • The perfect freebie at one of our fav food halls

  • BOGO scoops of the wildest flavors

Up first…

AREA FOUR PIZZA

The best pie you’ll have in Cambridge

šŸ’°The deal: $7 off any pizza (valid until July 4). Use this deal once and consider your monthly membership PAID.

šŸ§‘ā€šŸ³ There’s something special about this pie. The Globe’s restaurant critic Devra First was a huge fan of Kendall Square’s Area Four, identifying it as ā€œsomewhere between New Haven and Neopolitan in style.ā€ It’s crisp, slightly charred in the best way, and made from a 10-year-old sourdough starter.

🤤 The pizza menu will 100% make your mouth water. We recommend trying the prosciutto Americano (arugula, house-made mozz, tomato, hot honey, post-oven proscuitto), the carnivore (soppressata, sausage, bacon), or the classic Margherita, but they’re all fabulous.

šŸ„— A moment for the salads and starters, please. The wood-fired wings are to die for, and with that dipping sauce (it’s not bleu cheese or ranch, it’s better)!? Plus, the shaved Brussels sprout salad is a must-get for all you herbivores.

FAR OUT NEW ZEALAND STYLE ICE CREAM

Ice cream infused with freshness

šŸ’° The deal: Buy one ice cream, get one 50% off until the end of the month. Yes, we’re encouraging ice cream dates.

šŸŒ New Zealand is almost 10 thousand miles away. But you can get Kiwis’ favorite ā€œreal fruit ice cream,ā€ which is really, seriously delicious, right here in Boston at Far Out New Zealand Style Ice Cream.

šŸ“ Here’s how Far Out differs from American ice cream. When you order your real fruit ice cream, you’ll start by choosing your fresh fruit: blueberry, strawberry, banana, mango, and cherry. Then, you’ll choose between a vanilla or chocolate base (they also have vegan options and low-fat vanilla fro-yo).

šŸ« Don’t forget your add-ons. If you add coconut flakes, dark chocolate flakes, graham cracker crumbs, or matcha to your blend, it can really elevate your cup or cone. Our recommendation? Vanilla ice cream, strawberries, and graham cracker crumbs. Yup. Top it with sprinkles, a chocolate or caramel drizzle, or honey.

THE LINEUP’S GATTO PAZZO

A Downtown slice in an upscale food hall

šŸ’° The deal: Free cannoli with any pizza at Gatto Pazzo (valid until July 1). We told you it was the perfect freebie.

šŸ™ļø Whether you’re headed downtown for work or play, there’s always a need to find a quick and quality lunch stop that won’t break the bank or cut into your day.

šŸ“Enter: An elevated food hall (like, literally elevated). You may recall last month’s deal from multi-concept fast casual spot The Lineup, bringing five restaurants from Chef John Fraser of Michelin-starred JF Restaurants to the mezzanine level of The Winthrop Center.

šŸ” Try everything from pastries to pizza for under $20. Day Shift brings us elevated breakfast sammies, pastries, and salads; Big Grin serves smash burgers, dogs, and ice cream; Gatto Pazzo comes in hot with pizzas, sandwiches, and salads; Iris Mezze speaks to Chef Fraser’s mediterranean roots with pitas and bowls; and Ariana cranks out vegetarian burritos and tacos. The Lineup is also adding a poke pop-up in the coming months. Thank us later.

Look out for a new perk from The Lineup next month!

EMACK & BOLIO’S

Out-of-this world flavors that raise the bar

šŸ’° The deal: Buy a single scoop, get your second scoop for free (Newbury Street location only). Two for the price of one? A classic.

šŸŽø This ice cream spot has quite a history. Why we love Emack & Bolio’s so much? It’s got roots in rock ā€˜n roll. Owner Bob Rook started the business in 1975 as a place for musicians like Aerosmith, Boston, The Cars, U2, James Brown, and Al Green to recharge after their shows. Just take a look at these old flicks!

šŸØ Today, their flavors still ROCK. Emack & Bolio’s has all the classics, but if you tend to go for signature flavors, there are plenty to go around. Try combos like s’moreo, pumpkin, peach, salted caramel chocolate pretzel, and ā€œspace cakeā€ — cake batter ice cream with red velvet chunks.

šŸ™ Allergies? Vegan? Looking to branch out? All are welcome in this parlor. Try vegan flavors like raspberry chocolate crispy rice and toasted coconut; sorbets like raspberry, lemon, and mango; and froyo in black raspberry chocolate chip or vanilla.

🚨Thanks for reading! Warning: The use of these perks may cause extreme happiness and satisfaction.

šŸ’œ Special shoutout to our partners. The only thing we love more than pizza and ice cream is a good deal, so you’ve made our summer complete.
