Meet the Boston Legacy

Women’s soccer is BACK in Boston! Boston Legacy FC’s first-ever home opener is going down March 14 at 12:30 p.m. against reigning champs Gotham FC.

Here’s what to know before kickoff:

⚽ First thing’s first: They’re playing at Gillette. ICYMI: The Legacy will call Franklin Park’s White Stadium home starting next season, since it’s currently in the process of a *controversial* glow-up. So this year, they’ll split their home games between Foxborough and Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, R.I. The season runs now through early November. Here’s the full schedule

🏆 New team = no expectations. That said, their roster looks solid. Unlike most pro leagues, the NWSL doesn’t have drafts, so the Legacy basically built their lineup from scratch, recruiting a mix of international transfers, NWSL vets, and a few rookies. As with any expansion team, we won’t really know what they’re made of until they hit the pitch, but make no mistake: This team wants to WIN.

🙋‍♀️ Here are some names to know: Brazilian forward Amanda Gutierres is among the team’s best gets — she’s been racking up the accolades in international leagues, including a prestigious 2025 Ballon d'Or nomination. NWSL fans will recognize Olympic gold medalist Casey Murphy of the North Carolina Courage and Ella Stevens from New York’s Gotham FC. And Sophia Lowenberg will be our hometown hero, recruited straight from Boston College.

🏟️ The home opener is gonna be HUGE. And by huge, we mean 25,000 tickets sold (and counting!), a New Kids on the Block halftime show, and appearances by celeb investors Aly Raisman and Elizabeth Banks. There are still tickets available starting at $34!

🚇 To get there, just hop on the Legacy train! A.k.a. the commuter rail’s special event train between South Station and Foxborough, which you can book on the mTicket app. It’ll leave South Station at 10:05 a.m., stopping at Back Bay and Dedham before arriving at Foxboro Station at 11:05 a.m. It’ll head back to Boston 30 minutes after the final whistle.

🤩 Can’t make it this week? There are some seriously cool theme nights on deck, including Swiftie and “Fourth Wing” nights. Some even have post-match fireworks!

CITY

Quick & dirty headlines

Image: David L. Ryan/The Boston Globe

🌡️ Tuesday’s weather broke a 148-year-old record. Boston hit a balmy 75 degrees on March 10, breaking the long-held record for the day’s highest temp ever recorded … and the record for most people tanning by the still very frozen Charles (probably). Before Tuesday, the record was 71 degrees, set back in 1878. True to form, the whole city flocked outside to take in the springy weather, which, unfortunately, won’t last much longer: Temps are expected to dip back to the 40s this weekend.

☘️ The fun police are coming for the St. Paddy’s parade. Kidding … Boston officials are planning a massive crackdown on tomfoolery at this year’s festivities after years of unhinged behavior. See: parade-goers tearing down street signs and cops dumping BORGs into a storm drain. A taskforce has crafted a plan to address underage drinking, packies and bars are required to close by 4 and 7:30 p.m., respectively, and M Street will feature a new “family friendly zone.” Plus, cops, firefighters, and other officials will be on high alert.

💸 Gov. Healey wants a refund on President Trump’s tariffs. In fact, she literally wrote his administration a letter demanding $1,745 for every Massachusetts household as payback for raised prices due to his tariffs. By her office’s calculations, the tariffs — which the Supreme Court recently ruled unconstitutional — have cost Mass. residents ~$5 billion. And while U.S. Customs is technically working on some tariff refunds for businesses, they’re not for individual consumers … President Trump has yet to respond to Healey, but we wouldn’t get our hopes up.

⚾ This season at Fenway: Baseball and Bravo. This year’s lineup of Red Sox theme nights is here, along with its lineup of exclusive themed merch (see: Emily’s iconic hot dog hat). The roster includes Hello Kitty Night, country night (which comes with a completely cursed Red Sox cowboy hat), and Bravo Night on April 17, featuring the new RHORI cast and some fab sequined jerseys. Peruse all the theme nights here.

ONE LAST THING

Boston’s “call a boomer” line

If you stumbled upon a mysterious phone that said “Call A Boomer,” would you pick up?

Well, now’s your chance. A bright yellow phone box is currently sitting on BU’s campus next to Pavement Coffeehouse, waiting to connect you with residents of Sierra Manor, an affordable housing building for seniors in Reno, Nevada.

The project is the brainchild of biotech company Matter Neuroscience, and it’s aiming to connect younger and older adults — two of the loneliest age groups — despite potential political and generational divides. It’s here in Boston following success in San Francisco, where the line is connected to Abilene, Texas.

The phone will stick around for about a month, or longer if it proves to be popular. Here are a few of the best calls.
