T-1 day until the long weekend. Which means it’s officially time to start planning your itinerary.

Here’s what’s going on:

🍿 Catch a spooky movie under the stars. The Greenway is putting on a lineup of spooky movie nights this month with FREE popcorn, candy, and blankets. This weekend’s showing? “Goosebumps,” on Oct. 10.

⛴️ Set sail for the last time … this season, anyway. To mark this year’s final weekend of ferry service, you can nab $5 tickets to Spectacle or Peddocks Island on Oct. 11, 12, and 13. Grab ‘em here!

🥵 See Boston’s HOTTEST standup show. Picture “Hot Ones,” but instead of a YouTube show, it’s local comics attempting to perform a one-minute set after eating increasingly spicy wings without crying, puking, or chugging milk. You can catch it for free on Oct. 11.

🍎 Keep the doctor away. By eating every apple in sight at the Roxbury Russet Festival on Oct. 11. This apple-themed fest will have lawn games, crafts, vendors, a beer garden … and of course, TONS of apple goodies (hi, free apple cider doughnuts!).

👻 Tell Spirit Halloween to kick rocks. ‘Cause this year, you can thrift all the wicked, weird, and witchy wares you need at the Brighton Bazaar’s “How Bazaar” vendor market on Oct. 11 and 12.

🏓 Dink your way into a date. Boston Single Mingle is putting on a pickleball singles mixer at Harpoon on Oct. 11. If you won’t do it for love … do it for the free raffle for “Hamilton” tickets every attendee will be automatically entered in. <3

🧙 Chow down on a bewitching brunch. Time Out is putting on a “Hocus Pocus” drag brunch and bingo bash on Oct. 11 with themed performances, cocktails, and spooky prizes for the winners.

🎺 HONK! Your way through the weekend. We all know about Harvard Square’s massive annual Oktoberfest and HONK! Parade on Oct. 12. But did you know that Camberville will be celebrating all weekend long with tons of free musical performances?

🐶 Put the “howl” in Halloween. What’s better than a dog in a Halloween costume? TONS of dogs in Halloween costumes, plus food specials and a treat bar! A.k.a. Time Out’s epic Howl-Ween party on Oct. 12.

🎨 Get artsy in the Fenway. 20+ of the neighborhood’s arts and culture institutions will open to the public for the hood’s annual “Opening Our Doors Day” on Oct. 13. Expect exhibits, nature walks, performances, and MORE. Peruse this year’s lineup here.

🖼️ Spend a day at the museum. In honor of Indigenous People’s Day on Oct. 13, the MFA and ICA museums are offering free admission! Depending where you go, expect themed exhibits, classes, and programming. Here’s how to nab your tickets:

CITY

Quick & dirty headlines

🌧️ It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s … a nor’easter. It’s a big weekend of “firsts” for Boston weather: On Thursday night, we saw our first frost of the season, and come Sunday, we’ll likely see our first strong nor’easter since 2023. Projections show the storm rolling in Sunday evening and sticking around through Monday, bringing 2.5 inches of rain and up to 45 mph winds to Boston and much of southeastern New England. That said, the weather is famously ever-changing, so keep up with the latest here.

🚇 Taking the Orange Line this weekend? Good luck, babe. From Oct. 11 to 13, service will be suspended between North Station and Forest Hills. Shuttle buses will make all the usual stops between Forest Hills and Back Bay, plus an extra stop at Copley. But from Copley to North Station, you’re on your own kid (i.e., taking the Green Line). If you’d rather avoid the madness, the commuter rail will be fare free between Forest Hills, Ruggles, Back Bay, and South Station. *Sigh*.

🔥 PSA: You should probably check your smoke alarms. Back in 2015, a change to Mass.’ fire safety code meant that many smoke alarms were swapped out for versions with sealed, 10-year batteries. Which means they’re set to expire … right around now. Not sure about yours? Check your alarm’s manufacturing date (it should be on its back). If it’s over 10, or undated, It’s time for a new one. Note: If you need to chuck your alarm, make sure to dispose of it properly, depending on the type of battery it uses.

🥯 It’s a GREAT month to be a Boston foodie. Let’s count the reasons why! 1. Twisted Fate Brewing just opened a new spot in Suffolk Downs. 2. PopUp Bagels is opening its Harvard Square outpost TODAY. 3. Brick Street Bagels is finally opening its brick-and-mortar shop on Oct. 11. 4. Ritual Cafe is brewing up espresso and matcha drinks to match your mood at the Foundry the same day. 5. Brassica Kitchen + Cafe is opening its new expansion (including pizza!) Oct. 15.

ONE LAST THING

Drake Maye eats a meatball

On Sunday, Pats QB Drake Maye pulled off an epic W against the undefeated Buffalo Bills. Twenty-four hours later, he and offensive tackle Will Campbell were breaking bread in the North End

Maye and Campbell were spotted having dinner at Tony & Elaine’s (also the venue of our first-ever supper club, NBD). Apparently, they dined on mozzarella sticks, meatballs, pasta alla vodka, bolognese, and lots of garlic bread … and snapped a pic with Tony himself, who was thrilled to see them.

“I was so happy to see them come in — especially after such a big win! I was watching the game on TV the night before, and then to have them here, it really meant a lot,” he said. “Feels like the Patriots are back, you know?” We know, Tony.
