Three weeks of foodie deals

If there are two things B-Siders love, it’s dining and deals. Enter: Dine Out Boston, a glorious three-week stretch when tons of local restaurants offer multi-course, prix-fixe lunch and dinner menus ranging from $22 to $55 a pop.

This year runs from Feb. 23 to March 15, and over 175 spots are participating. We scoured the list and sniffed out a few notable newbies for you to try:

😮‍💨 For food that feels upscale but won’t break the bank … Alden & Harlow in Cambridge offers fancy-feeling contemporary American bites for $46, including on Saturdays (unlike many Dine Out spots).

🍔 For a meal approved by Cousin Stizz … BRED in Kendall Square will level up your typical burger night with a starter, entree, hand-cut fries and dessert (see: glazed beignets) for just $36. SOLD.

🪩 For an excuse to try a (rightfully) trendy spot … Capo Restaurant & Supper Club’s reputation precedes it, but if you’ve never been to the contemporary Italian Southie haunt, a $41 three-course dinner is the perfect excuse to go.

🍝 For a perfect date night splurge … Hit up Geppetto in East Cambridge. Its Dine Out Menu will run you $55, but the quality of the Italian-inspired dishes and renowned chefs promise to impress.

🍺 For a perfect date night on a budget … Southie’s Lincoln Tavern will hit the spot. The vibes and menu give elevated local tavern and the price is so, so right at $36 for a three-course dinner.

🥬 For a plant-based menu that doesn’t feel limited … Lulu Green in Southie has it for $36, including on Saturday night. From pasta to burgers to shawarma and killer cocktails, you wont miss the meat.

🍸 For a spot that’s graced every “best of” list … Check out Moon Bar in the Back Bay. It’s known for inventive fusion dishes and fabulous cocktails. For its excellent reputation, $46 a pop feels like a steal.

🌮 For a Saturday night deal (and fabulous margs) … Taco Azul Downtown is the ticket, even on Saturdays. It claims to have the best guac, tacos, and margs in Boston — and for $46, we’d be more than happy to see for ourselves.

💡 For the most beautiful dining room you ever did see … Try Charlestown’s Waverly Kitchen & Bar. We’d go for the aesthetic alone, but the three-course, $41 menu including steak frites certainly doesn’t hurt.

CITY

Quick & dirty headlines

🚃 Riding the T this weekend? Good luck. The Green Line will be shut down between North Station and Kenmore (C and D branches), Babcock Street (B branch), and Heath St. (E branch). The shuttle bus sitch (or lack thereof) is different for each branch, so if you’re planning on riding, we strongly suggest you review the plans here. Meanwhile, the Red Line will be shut down and replaced with shuttles between JFK/UMass and Braintree. Consider taking the fare-free commuter rail between Braintree, Quincy Center, JFK/UMass, and South Station instead. Oy.

Josh Kraft gave Mayor Michelle Wu a red card. Kraft, mayoral candidate and a son of Pats owner Robert Kraft, called on Wu to “immediately halt” demolition on Franklin Park’s White Stadium until legal proceedings are resolved — a lawsuit over the redevelopment project is expected to go to trial March 18. The call-out makes sense in terms of Kraft’s campaign, which has attempted to paint Wu as out-of-touch with voters. But given the vibes from Mayor Wu and the project’s tight timeline (BOSNation is slotted to play there in spring 2026), stopping doesn’t seem likely.

☃️ It’s not your imagination: This winter has been brutal. At least, compared with our last few here in Boston. Since December, this season’s snowfall total is 28.1 inches. That’s still not quite enough to count as “normal” in Boston (33.8 inches), but it's much closer than last year’s measly 9.7. And that’s not to mention the cold or ice. This winter’s 45 days of temps below freezing is comparable to our 2015 “snowmaggeddon” season, and this week, icy conditions have caused three times the normal number of hospitalizations.

🏅 The Boston Marathon medals look … different. Again. The B.A.A. has unveiled the medal design for this year’s marathon. After last year’s design (which prominently featured sponsor Bank of America) caused an internet meltdown, the association has scaled back the sponcon. The bank’s logo is much less prominent — the company’s name is gone altogether — and unlike previous years, the medal is round. So far, it seems like the majority of social media is happy with the changes, and we have to agree, it looks pretty sick.

ONE LAST THING

The bars where Bostonians find love

Illustration: Gia Orsino

@narcolepsybesty is back doing god’s work on Instagram. And obviously, by god’s work, we mean polling Boston couples on which bars they met their partners at and sharing the info.

She surveyed 116 couples, and 71 bars came up. In third place, where four couples met: The Flamingo. In second place, with five couples per spot: Lincoln Tavern, Bell in Hand, and The Harp. And in first place, where a whopping 12 couples met *drumroll* The Burren!

Judging by the comments section full of people who have also met at the Burren, all we can say is: Run, don’t walk!
